What Does The Future Look Like?

Bright! Or should we say Brite?
We made some bold decisions recently that will help transform the brewery into a more sustainable business, reducing our carbon footprint and increasing capacity so that we can cut costs and keep our prices fair whilst continuing to brew even better beer.

Since inception, we have been serving from 3 brite tanks in the basement. (one used to be behind the bar until we realised it was costing an arm and a leg because it sat proudly in direct sunlight getting incredibly warm). Unfortunately these vessels are too small to fit a full batch in, so we are forced to keg the second half of every batch, which not only takes more effort, but also increases packaging costs as the price of keg rental is astronomical. It also meant we need more cellar space, and extra cooling, again costing more, especially when electricity prices went through the roof.

On top of all that we are constantly chasing our tails trying to refill the tanks with the next beer much sooner than we would otherwise need to, putting pressure on the brewer(s) and increasing workload with the extra cleans between refills, and ultimately ending up with multiple empty tanks while serving from expensive kegs and losing valuable tap space on the bar….

Needless to say we have had enough of that malarky.

What’s the solution?
Sell off the three smaller vessels and buy six bigger ones!

What does that achieve?
The main benefits are the huge reduction in packaging costs as a full batch will fit in a single vessel, removing the need for expensive and time consuming kegging runs, plus the difference in workload to move half a batch or a full batch is minimal, so its a much more efficient way to work. Not only that, but every time you move or package a beer you run the risk of a decrease in quality and or yield due to oxygen pickup or, worse still, microbial infection that reduces shelf life or ruins a beer entirely.

How can we afford new tanks?
It’s pretty simple really, we either continue as we are and spend thousands in packaging costs over the next 5-10 years, or we pull the capital together and invest in new vessels for a fraction of that cost, and actually save money in the long run, and at the same time increase the value of the business as we own the equipment rather than renting the kegs.

What does that mean for you?
It means the majority of beer you buy from us will be served direct from tank, which is more economical, environmentally friendly, and helps us pass on the savings to you through our fair pricing.
You won’t see any Xylo beers anywhere other than in our taproom so you know you are getting the beer as fresh as it gets direct from source.

When is this happening?
The vessels have been produced, packed and are on their way to us now! We hope and expect to be up and running by the end of the year.

Bring on 2026!
